Checking in on HR
The past couple years have been tough. HR departments around the world have been at the forefront of the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic brought to the workplace. It is their job to make sure everyone is adapting to new protocol and doing okay working from home. If you're an HR manager checking in on your employees, don't forget to check in with yourself. Here are 3 tips to remember:
- Dedicated Self-Reflection
It's easy to dive right into work each and every day. HR managers have so many things moving at the same time, it can be hard to take a minute and reflect. Consider taking a few minutes every morning to do a self-reflection. Whether you write down your thoughts, or simply take a moment to sip on your coffee and think about the day ahead, this time to yourself will kick off your day on a more peaceful note. You will be able to recognize when you need a break, and don't be afraid to take one. - Prioritize Team Building
A strong team is necessary for any department to run smoothly, especially HR. The HR department takes care of all current employees and onboarding new ones - that's a lot! Doing some team building will keep people (and yourself) feeling supported and in high spirits. Try a monthly lunch or team outing. This is a great time to talk about what's going well, what needs work, where your team needs more support. Plus, it's always fun to get together outside of the office! - Take Time Off
Taking time off can be a struggle. With the hybrid world we currently live in, it's easy to feel like you can just bring your laptop with you on vacation. Although this flexibility is nice, it is important to take the appropriate time off. Everyone needs time to rest, relax and take a step back from work. It may be hard to take of your HR hat - but that's what your amazing team is for! They will support and take care of things while you recharge.
We know you have a lot on your plate, but it's important to prioritize you. Don't feel guilty taking much needed time to yourself. A well run company leans on their HR department, so it's necessary that you take care of yourself. And don't forget...PeopleShare is here to help if you need us.
